RF signal generator calibration, level, frequency and modulation to 40 GHz

Output level, frequency accuracy, harmonics, amplitude modulation depth, frequency modulation deviation and pulse modulation of signal generators measured on site under LAB Support Ltd.'s A2LA accredited ISO/IEC 17025 scope.

Why it matters

The generator sets the level every immunity test and every receiver check starts from

In RF immunity systems the signal generator sets the drive level and the 80 % AM modulation that IEC 61000-4-3 and IEC 61000-4-6 require. In calibration it is the source for receiver and power sensor checks. Level error, harmonics and modulation depth all propagate directly into the test field or the measured value, so the generator is calibrated for all three.

  • Output level from -120 dBm to +40 dBm, 9 kHz to 40 GHz
  • Frequency accuracy and harmonics
  • AM depth 5 % to 99 % and FM deviation to 500 kHz
  • Pulse modulation rise and fall time, pulse width

The methods and standards shown are the ones most commonly requested. Within each parameter and range listed on the accredited scope, other calibration methods and standard editions can be supported under the flexible-scope provisions of LAB Support's A2LA accreditation. The measurement uncertainty for each parameter is stated on the certificate. Field calibration is included in the scope for every line above.

Frequently asked

Questions we are asked

Can the generator inside an RF immunity system be calibrated?

Yes. Generators built into systems such as the Teseq NSG 4070 are calibrated in situ for level, frequency and AM depth, together with the power meter and amplifier at the same visit.

Is the 80 % AM check included?

Yes. AM depth is measured at the 1 kHz modulation frequency used in IEC 61000-4-3 and IEC 61000-4-6 and at other settings on request.

Do you calibrate level below -100 dBm?

Yes, down to -120 dBm using a calibrated signal analyser path, which is what receiver sensitivity checks require.

Which countries do you cover on site?

Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam, with Penang as the base. Other locations on request.
