Why it matters

Burst pulses are fast enough that only the waveform tells the truth

An EFT generator delivers 5 ns rise-time pulses at repetition rates up to 100 kHz. Its display shows the set voltage, not the pulse the coupling network actually delivers. IEC 61000-4-4 defines the waveform into both a 50 ohm and a 1000 ohm load, with tolerances on amplitude, rise time and duration, and requires the generator to be verified against them. The measurement needs a high-bandwidth oscilloscope, calibrated attenuators and the standard's loads, which the team brings to your bench.

Questions we are asked

Do you verify the generator with its coupling network?

Yes. IEC 61000-4-4 requires the waveform to be checked at the output of the coupling/decoupling network as well as at the generator, and the capacitive clamp with its transducer plate. All three are done at the same visit.

Which editions of IEC 61000-4-4 are covered?

The current edition and earlier editions in use by your procedures. Tell us which your test method references and the certificate states it.

Can combined generators be calibrated in one visit?

Yes. Compact generators such as the NSG 3040 and compact NX5 combine burst, surge, dips and ring wave. All functions are calibrated in the same visit under the relevant standards.

Which countries do you cover on site?

Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam, with Penang as the base. Other locations on request.
