Pulse amplitude, rise time, impulse duration, burst duration, burst period and repetition frequency measured on site under LAB Support Ltd.'s A2LA accredited ISO/IEC 17025 scope, by the LAB Support Southeast Asia team.
An EFT generator delivers 5 ns rise-time pulses at repetition rates up to 100 kHz. Its display shows the set voltage, not the pulse the coupling network actually delivers. IEC 61000-4-4 defines the waveform into both a 50 ohm and a 1000 ohm load, with tolerances on amplitude, rise time and duration, and requires the generator to be verified against them. The measurement needs a high-bandwidth oscilloscope, calibrated attenuators and the standard's loads, which the team brings to your bench.
| Parameter | Range | Common methods and standards |
|---|---|---|
| Pulse peak amplitude, 50 ohm and 1000 ohm load | 0.1 kV to 5 kV | IEC/EN 61000-4-4, oscilloscope with calibrated attenuator |
| Rise time | 2 ns to 7 ns | IEC/EN 61000-4-4, oscilloscope |
| Impulse duration | 30 ns to 170 ns | IEC/EN 61000-4-4 |
| Burst duration and burst period | 0.5 ms to 400 ms | IEC/EN 61000-4-4 |
| Repetition frequency | 1 kHz to 1 MHz | IEC/EN 61000-4-4, oscilloscope |
| Coupling clamp and CDN output | With the generator | IEC/EN 61000-4-4 Annex A and B |
The methods and standards shown are the ones most commonly requested. Within each parameter and range listed on the accredited scope, other calibration methods and standard editions can be supported under the flexible-scope provisions of LAB Support's A2LA accreditation. The measurement uncertainty for each parameter is stated on the certificate. Field calibration is included in the scope for every line above.
From our own calibration records. Any instrument within the scope can be calibrated; these are the ones we see most.
Yes. IEC 61000-4-4 requires the waveform to be checked at the output of the coupling/decoupling network as well as at the generator, and the capacitive clamp with its transducer plate. All three are done at the same visit.
The current edition and earlier editions in use by your procedures. Tell us which your test method references and the certificate states it.
Yes. Compact generators such as the NSG 3040 and compact NX5 combine burst, surge, dips and ring wave. All functions are calibrated in the same visit under the relevant standards.
